Movie Extra 101
Lights! Camera! Action! Ever wanted to be in a movie? Now’s your chance! Movie Extra 101 teaches students how to get work as a background actors or featured extras. This course is taught by Gary Michael Smith (IMDB) who has appeared in numerous major motion pictures and made-for-TV movies, and has worked with three casting companies to cast hundreds of movie extras for major films. He also is a contributor to Louisiana Film and Video Magazine, Shutter, Take 2 Review, Louisiana Red Carpet, and Bayou Buzz on film industry topics.
In Movie Extra 101 you’ll discover why so many films have moved to New Orleans (often referred to as “Hollywood South”) and elsewhere in Louisiana, and how you can be a part of the business. You’ll learn about open casting calls and what to expect, as well as how to find and apply directly with casting companies. You’ll find out about acting classes and what they offer. You’ll learn about talent agents and headshots, and whether or not you need them, and you’ll be given advice on getting speaking roles and the impact to you as a budding film star. You’ll even be given information on working with casting directors as a casting assistant as well as working with production companies as a production assistant. Numerous local and state resources will be provided as well as general information on the film and television industry as a whole, including the growth of production studios and soundstages in New Orleans.
Don’t miss this chance to be a part of the Hollywood South film industry!
